Good morning and Welcome! to my Scales of Ma’at reading for 11Feb2016: as my Heart I drew the Ace of Wands and the Feather of Truth is fluttering around inside, perhaps disconcertingly, XV The Devil. (Today’s deck is again *The Tarot of The Holy Light* by Michael Dowers & Christine Payne-Towler. I am really beginning to like this deck, despite the exorbitantly-priced “accessories” that are sold, as well. Just the deck, please. Very Kabbalistic, alchemical & hermetic currents truly dominate this deck, and are an entire OCEAN of information on each Arcanum. It is most definitely worth having. Skip the pricey add-ons.) My Heart is living today in the Ace of Wands, AGAIN; This card turned up just a few days ago, but as the Feather of Truth; so it is being emphasized somewhere in that dense fog that constitutes my destiny. Quick review of her ‘ossies’: “The Roots of the Power of Fire” sits in Kether, arriving in Fire, of course. Astrologically he is ALL the fire signs, but he IS in the 1st decan of Aries ruled by Mars; It is also in the flaming sea of Atziluth, so there’s F-I-R-E here, my friend! Just remember – Fire is ALL upfront, on its own but has no depth or stability or backup – and THAT IS IMPORTANT. This Ace is more often than not the sign of the birth of a spiritual venture. It IS one I feel I am already taking, but that doesn’t prevent me from continuing to want to take it even more and more and more. I’m VERY motivated – I WANT to do this, I WILL do this – I will learn what I wish to know and I will leave and rejoin the divine. There isn’t a doubt in my mind. Questions, and questioning, have to do with the illusion of space-time, and if indulged, become endless. It’s an old childhood tactic, isn’t it? The further you can delay the inevitable with questions, the further away “punishment” or “hearing the truth” seems to be. Of course, it only underlines it, which we learn as we mature. I’m bursting with Wand-like desire, it’s true. To tell you a not-so-secret-and-deep-desire, I want to step up onto the world stage and tell everyone that Tarot isn’t as weird or dangerous as they may think; it is a tool to “ascend.” I’d like to tell people that in the right hands & with the right motivation, Tarot can do what no amount of therapy or self-help methods can do for you: It can help you find YOU and make of You the kind of person You want to be. It’s simple, & easy. Along the way, of course, you’ll learn about the Universe, and the Divine, and the Tree of Life, and ALL of the wonderful things that Tarot will show to you and the doors it will open for you, to treasures you never even knew existed. And you will learn the TRUTH; you are part of a larger, vaster community of souls all striving to evolve through the existential path of Existence, all connected, and all with the same mystery facing them: the Mystery of the Journey on the Red Road. And facing it today, head on, is the mystery of Arcanum XV, The Devil.
Well, of course the 1st word that whips off of every nickel & dime reader’s mind is “Materialism” and chortlings about the fleshly failings, of the tsk-tsking to be done about people who choose to remain enslaved. Well, y-e-a-a –but; you’re missing the point, I think? Look at the bones: He’s on the Path of Ayin, 26 in the Tree of Life. He is Saturn on his dark side, although astrologically he is the Moon. He travels from Tiphareth to Hod, on an Earth-y path. Factoid: His number, 15, is also the number of the Full Moon. “In the Tree of Life the Devil goes from consciousness and harmony to intellect and logic - against all dogma, never caring for rules, freely uncompromising and independent. There are no restrictions, no limitations, nothing is forbidden. The Devil is aware of the darkness; he knows all the shadows and will go on researching even at a high price. 'Non servam': I don't serve!” (Raven) HERE’S the Devil, right here, and that is NOT to make a moral judgement. The Devil is exactly what Orthodoxy of ANY sort cannot stand or tolerate – an independent thinker & great intellect who will not acknowledge any authority other than own, above all not that of a weak & corrupt religious body, whichever it may be. Being the Devil has a Price: Loneliness; Misunderstanding; Exile, in any form; ‘damnation’ in the hearts and minds of ALL your fellow beings. AND YET . . . AND YET . . . despite all of that, Lucifer the Lightbringer can be of IMMENSE use to us, IF we keep him “dompted,” trained & chained not very differently than he wishes to keep us. His Energy is phenomenal, as are vast reserves of persuasion and charm. If you are the kind of person who NEEDS a pack of Rottweilers patrolling your home at night, then by all means keep XV around. Otherwise, like the rest of us, observe, take notes, tag & release, and set sternly-guided signposts on the highways of yourself telling you to beware the Hubris crossings (often and unexpected.) I can’t take the Devil seriously anymore in my personal life, because I learned who he was and is: that in me that shirks the Light and prefers the Shadow, flees simplicity and truth and seeks complexity and double-entendres. That part of people can power a lot of personality – just look around you. The amount of Energy being spent to uphold those billions of private pretenses is mind-boggling in the same way that intergalactic, cosmic distances are mind-boggling; our brains can’t conceive of that kind of exponential. Yet from beyond even there, the Divine is calling to us, it is always calling to us to come Home. One day perhaps we can answer. May the Blessings of the Cosmos bring us all renewal and understanding today!
