Good morning and Welcome! to The Fool’s Tarot for 01Oct2016. October is always my favorite month of the year, I truly love it. So this will be a month of happy events & good feelings, as far as I’m concerned; We start the month today with a 2-card Goal/Obstacle draw, and for the 1st card I have IX the Hermit, and then I draw my Opposition and it is a 9 of Swords. I’m using the *Liber T Tarot of Stars Eternal* by Andrea Serio & Roberto Negrini. “The Liber T: Tarot of the Stars Eternal deck has its roots in the Golden Dawn teachings and has many similarities to the Aleister Crowley Thoth Tarot but some individual differences. Its concept is by Roberto Negrini, drawing on the astrology of the Golden Dawn, the Book of Thoth, and ancient Egyptian astronomy. . . The distinctive art is the creation of Andrea Serio - who was also the artist responsible for the Dante Tarot – and his unique style is plainly visible in the art of the Tarot of the Stars Eternal. Compared to the Crowley Thoth, the art is softer, more unfocused, more flowing and abstract. The pen-and-ink fractured detail of the Crowley deck has been removed, which gives the art a more flowing and dreamlike feel but the distinct precision and its raw-edged reality is lost.” (Aeclectic, , “Solandia.”) A LOT of people don’t like this deck, and I am sure it is because it soft-pedals Crowley. IF you cut that out of your head, it’s okay. I am neutral leaning towards like, I have no problem with this deck, although if I want to read this way I almost always just reach for a real Thoth deck. It is as if the latter deck is a loudmouthed asshole who always tells the truth, while the former is his plain, washed out partner who apologizes for him but believes the same thing. OR yes! That’s it! It is as if someone put a Thoth deck through a full cotton cycle on the washer/dryer. Faded a tad, it did. But my goal today for solitude and contemplation & meditation time won’t allow for a whole lot of pointless distraction about who bakes a better cake. I can grok it, the IX that is, because I DO need some deep time to formulate what I’m going to be doing when the tarot salon” I’m starting the group next week, so I need to have some semblance of inner calm, order, knowledge, patience & good enough cheer to welcome acolytes into my cave. Plus, if I “isolate” myself a bit today by cleaning in my office and tackling the never ending task of organizing my decks & materials, I can get the deep time without hassle or endless digressions. Factoids on IX the Hermit are: He is on Path of Yod #20 in the Tree of Life. He has either Saturn as the keeper of the gate, or Saturn in Aquarius, standing for the search of wisdom and the keeping of independence. Astrowise, he is Virgo, and he’s traveling from Chesed to Tiphareth and is of the Earth. Any opposition I may encounter along the Path today is coming from the 9 of Swords. AKA Cruelty, he is in Yesod in the Tree of Life, by way of Air.
Astrowise, he is Mars in the 2nd decan of Gemini. “The Nine of Swords are entering Yesod, the fields of reflection and imagination, and while all other Suits make themselves comfortable in blessed happiness, the Swords seem to be the outcast, called 'Cruelty'. With the airy nature of the mind, the Swords cannot rest, they cannot stop thinking and analyzing - and in the end, cannot ignore the fact that nothing really leads anywhere, that in the end there is nothing. . . Therefore, it is a bit unfair to call the Nine of Swords a bad card, or criticize it for cruelty or 'over-analyzing'. After all, we cannot expect the suit of the mind to tell us that we're better off with our heads in the sand, just to not see the cruel truth that is out there.” (Raven) Yes, well, that sounds very much like the OLD me, cynical and sarcastic, prideful of my intellectual prowess which by its nature tended toward nihilism. Ugh, that man was unhappy! IF I am going into the depths of a subject, with all consequences NOW, I don’t visualize, manifest and expect all of the myriad fucked up ways everything can go wrong, or why the general stupidity of people makes any effort doomed to failure, or why a kind of false “pity” becomes your dominant emotion as you gaze desperately at all the sheep around you, looking for another human being in vain. Sounds nasty, snotty and very much a prick, eh? Yep. But with intelligence comes prevarication and mendacity, so one makes one’s social way in the world. But the price is always a tremendous load of STRESS. And that is how I almost always read this 9, as a moment of massive stress and the desperation of the position. Combined with my Goal, I can see it isn’t so much about actively entertaining a shitload of stress, no . . .  it is more indirect than that, it is letting old stress and possible worry add up to produce stress; now the turd in the punchbowl with this is that I would NEVER act this self-sabotaging, NOW. I might have when I was much younger, but I am crustal clear and level-headed NOW about the self-production of stress, its uselessness and simply how to stop it. I don’t stress myself out anymore if I can at ALL help it. “I ain’t searchin’ fo’ no drama, Mama!” So this card can go take a flying hike to the Moon; I may see a few examples of it coming from outside of myself, but me stressing out over my own inner drama “isn’t gonna happen, Clyde.” I ask the Cosmos today to give us ALL the ability to call “Bullshit!” on any false trap trying to sneak back into our lives today. Be Well!

Good morning and Welcome! to The Fool’s Tarot for 30Sep2016. I’ve drawn the Nuclear Family again for today, and the draw was as follows: 1) Goal/Me/Main point of the day – the King of Coins; 2) Principal helpmeet if needed – the Knight of Coins, and 3) our “child” for good or ill, of help or hindrance – 8 of Swords. All are upright. The deck today is, again, the *Viéville Tarot*, and this will be its last public appearance for a while, other decks are yelling & waiting restlessly for their turn to lead my day. The King of Coins comes up to lead today, to stand as goal or main point of the day – and I just don’t have a fucking glimmer on what he is doing here. When I show up on the board, it is always as the King of either Wands or Swords, the other two kings being rare visitors indeed. I can only surmise that this is going to be an outside influence. In which case, I’ll be dealing with a person who is a shrewd businessman and genial spirit. He’s curious, cultured and observant, and he only walks in to anything if the odds are in his favor, and he has finely calculated them. The King of Disks is Fire in Earth, he’s in Chokmah and he strides from Leo to Virgo. This sounds very much like a money issue, and as far as I know I have no irons in the fire right now as far as the bank is concerned.
I’m not rich nor am I poor, so no change there. I hesitate to say it as assuredly as all that, but this isn’t me, therefore it is coming from outside, and I need to be alert for “him” or “it.” By the way, that feels right to my intuition, too. As my helpmeet to deal with this arrival, interestingly enough, I can find help if I need it from the Knight of Coins. Rather placid & stoic by nature, going about the business of growing and consolidating his material “gains” as well as bringing a regular rhythm and a realistic point of view to any endeavor.  The Knight is Air in Earth, moving from Leo to Taurus and sits in Tiphareth. Finally, exercising an influence on the day in a subtler manner, from a distance, is our creation, the 8 of Swords. If a man is to maintain his “equilibrium” in the world he does it by preserving the intimacy of his primordial being. This card is in the ranks of spiritual openings appearing in life, and the expansion of conscience. More than anything else, what I seem to be looking at is a day with the arrival of an outside “King of Coins” force or person or energy nexus, which isn’t a bad appearance in my life just an odd one. My helpmeet in this is

to try and understand that blind loyalty and utmost obedience is required in order to establish favorable odds in life’s dealings, whatever they may be. Just as this is a heavily material draw, it opens up to the spiritual with the last card, propelling 3D earth concerns into the realm of spirit where other matters are more important.
Pay attention to a heavily material influx into your life today, Mark, and look for the gateway to take the experience into the spiritual and this transmogrifying its nature to suit your own needs, instead of existing to serve the illusion. I ask the Cosmos today to give us ALL a touch of our most unfamiliar element and a chance to transmogrify it into a spiritual gateway. Be Well!

Good morning and Welcome! to The Fool’s Tarot for 29Sep2016. Today I am again using the Nuclear Family spread for a look at the day, in order to get a “full” picture of how to “ride the day;” a one-card draw is great for general trends but I want a bit more specificity today; I have a morning of Doctors’ appointments & medical folderol to engage myself in in the soon-approaching hours. So, this morning is short & sweet because of time pressure. Which should be fine, because then you can either read these cards yourself for  a “ghost client” or draw a Nuclear Family spread of your own.  Today’s deck is again the *Vieville Tarot*. Well, hmm; I’m represented by a slick professional mercenary, the Page of Swords (or Valet, as in the original.) He’s loyal to who pays him, his quick, efficient and can be pitiless and brutal if the occasion calls for it. That represents, I suppose (dodging the bullet) that is meant to be how I’m approaching the day, and I must say I find it a bit true. When dealing with the quacks who want to tell me what to do with my health, it is best to ALWAYS remember that under those clothes,
they ARE wearing wildly kinky undergarments, driven to it by years of organized soul-crushing in med school. Gazing down at “me” . . . in amusement? Inquisition? Lust or Distaste? . . . is the King of Cups. This King isn’t the Rider-Waite kind, by any means; whereas the RW King is somewhat diffident and not even sure he likes where he is, this King is into it! He is of a different order; he LIKES his job! He’s gifted with a solid psychic ability is intuitive and a good observer. He wants to lend me a hand to accomplish projects of the first order, but he needs me to be sure I separate and am able to juggle my terrestrial appetites in order to be able to make room for both his aide and my first manifestation of the “project,” whatever that may be. He is a reflection of stability and can bring new solutions to old & thorny problems. His only weaknesses lie in needing to surmount his own laziness, overcome his passivity and control his libido. And finally, we have our “love child,” the 3 of Coins reversed. Normally this “child” represents creativity, pure and simple. It is exactly like a blossom springing forth in the warmth of the spring sunshine after a fresh rain. That is an image I REALLY like for this card. However, our
roses are on the bottom, thus reversed. So today, Junior is feeling touchy, and any intrusion into its space is seen as aggressive, and to be responded to accordingly. It is a waste of energy, causing disorder. It can even signify that an action which started healthily because inspired has become confused and leaning into anarchy. “DAMN! Priscilla!! That boy needs a good whippin’! He can’t treat us like that!” Well, barring taking off my belt and whipping surprised strangers in the street, I shall keep an eye out for ANY interference in my day from this kind of energy nexus, which has the ambition & ability to fuck with my day. Guess again, douche bag. Okay, that’s it. I ask the Cosmos to give us ALL today wings on our slippers to speed through the day! Be Well!

Good morning and Welcome! to The Fool’s Tarot for 28Sep2016. Several changes have arrived by yestereve‘s breeze and I need to share them. The first is that I have found a deck that fits magically in my hands and the link is intense, intuitive and immediate. I am speaking of the *Vieville Tarot* produced by Maître Cartier Jacques Vieville between 1643 – 1664.  I have never felt a link like this before. Second, I have decided to rename the Not-So-Holy-Family to the Nuclear Family, better reflecting not a moral judgment but a picture of modern interpersonal dynamics. Today I have drawn: 1) the 10 of Batons as my day-journey; 2) the Queen of Coins as my helpmeet, and 3) the influence for better or worse brought in by the “child of our union,” the Knight of Swords. I feel like a kid in a candy store! I don’t know where to start! . . . with the beginning, of course. The very first thing I remark is that only the possibly nefast card, the 3rd, is reversed; for to better inform you, you should take note that in a Marseille or Marseille-type deck of this sort, Reversals DO count and they are important. You may think some of the pip cards are unpolarized, but you would be wrong; with attention to the detail, where the Devil lives, there is always a way to tell upright or reversed. So, my goal, state-of-existence today is the 10 of Batons or Wands or Clubs, call it what you will. Unlike a Rider-Waite reading, the 10 of Batons has a very different meaning. Here it is a strong catalyst. It expresses an action which, to start, concentrates Energy and then forcefully and efficiently deploys it in every direction. It also marks a very obvious delay between the acquisition of these spiritual energies and their deployment. If one isn’t careful with it, it can turn you into a Dominator in all the BAD senses of that word. “This is a real Will to dominate. It is the strength of the ego, of the personality and by extension the organization of voluntary expansion without limits.” (Patrick Coq, trans. by Me. *LWB*) It’s a real humdinger, this 10. My 10 expresses a strong discipline and great organizational capacity where fantasy has little to no role to play.
It anything is going to strike you sharply across the buttocks with a stinging cane and tell you to get back to work, it is this card. If that is my-day-my-goal, then I am going to be okay today. What I have on the agenda is revamping and figuring out how to format & schedule my brand new, informal evenings chez Moi once a week to discuss Tarot – I’m trying a different form to edge into this teaching gig the cards keep screaming at me to take. I’m all for it, but am practical and realistic enough to know that it won’t just happen out of thin air, it won’t manifest that way. It will manifest through work, skill & determination, and this card is telling me that they are here today if I need to pick them up and use them. That’s cool, I can grok that. My helpmeet today is the Queen of Coins (Pentacles); now here is a lady I like a lot, having had one in real life during my childhood and young adulthood, a very smart older relative who had almost unlimited funds and an inordinate fondness for me. Anything I know about generosity of purse and spirit, of body and mind, I know from her, and yet she DID have faults, great big glaring ones, which she made no pretense to conceal. I adored that woman, and she gave me a great gift, a way to see women in a positive, life-fulfilling role of guiding their own destinies while doing their utmost to help others. Otherwise, my view of women, constructed during childhood, would have been a grim, bleak wilderness filled with cold, howling winds. This Queen is very cerebral & active, and generally follows the prevailing wind, be it conservative or liberal. She is an altruist or an egotist, depending on the circumstances’ diktat. She is, however, insouciant with a rich unconscious and loads of regenerative strength. She is usually gifted with an exceptional gift of Vision; her vast network of “informants” make her a calculator on the statistical probabilities and she is usually dead on. So she sees a LOT, but because she does, she DEMANDS a lot. I can live with that, and if I need her today, I WILL call her.
Finally, I need to look at our willful child, the Knight of Swords reversed. Normally, this guy is an upright, stand-up kind of guy with a strict moral code and he sees things in a rainbow of . . .  black & white. Ha. He can be brutal, if he needs to be, and he certainly will let nothing stand in the way of the realization of his desires and a good long look in the mirror to preen about it. Two words were shouted in the Cosmos when he was born, “CONTROL FREAK!” The LWB here says that he is in psychic torment because he is in an imperative fight to control his Anima, but conversely and paradoxically she is the source savage, untamable and masculine Force. Okay, get it got it good, yeah, but here he is reversed – so-o-o-o, “What does that mean, Annie?” “That means he’s out-of-his-head brutal, Daddy Warbucks, and most likely he will trail destruction behind him like an inevitable consequence.” Yep, that’s someone to be avoided today!! A brute, a mindless bull, as the French say an “abruti.” I’ve met a few in my life, but the real, true Minotaurs are actually few & far between; it takes a TREMENDOUS amount of Energy & Force to manifest that kind of animalized human. Think *Rabban* in the book & film “Dune,” a man who is no more than a savage pork in dress leathers. Now, I can hardly imagine anyone even REMOTELY like that showing up in my life today, or any given day for that matter, and thus it would seem that if sonny is going to raise his ugly snout it will be in some subtler, or perhaps even interiorized, fashion. I hope not; I hat dealing with that energy, and yet it is easily summoned in me, although not to that reversed extreme, thank Osiris!! At any right, I WILL keep a lookout for him both in the exterior and the interior. I ask the Cosmos today to give us ALL a bit of distance from the shitheads in our lives, in order that we can better see them as they are. Be Well!

Good morning and Welcome! to The Fool’s Tarot for 27Sep2016. Today I’ve decided to use the Not-So-Holy Family spread again and the 3 cards I have drawn are: 1) 4 if Reels (Pentagrams) standing for me & my desired goal today 2) XVII the Star, symbolizing where my aide lies today, and 3) XVIII the Moon, standing for my challenge or blockage or lesson for the day. (Today’s deck is the *Tarot of the Dead* by Monica Knighton. It is of the genre of a take-off on the skeleton theme; however, it is not intended to be frightening. It was in rotation, and I can *just* barely connect it with today by considering my coming back from my Shadow voyage as a kind of rebirth, and thus in strange, inverse logic well-represented by a skeleton. Sort of, kind of, maybe. Ha!)  Well, let’s get on with it, shall we? So, I am represented today by the 4 of Reels (Disks, Pentagons) in what I can’t help but think of “the Marseille style.” And THUS, this card warns of feelings of “stinginess or greed, of insecurity and fear of want.” (LWB) “Well, campers, that ain’t where I’m at today, so I’m sorry there, Madame Blavatsky, but you can shove that up your keister!” I COULD be represented by its reversal, however, which is “Generosity, openness and acceptance.” That COULD be my goal today, and MUCH more in line with who I am. Perhaps what is most important here today isn’t the divinatory addenda, but the factoids: It is on the Tree of Life in Chesed through Earth, and Astrowise, it is the Sun in the 3rd decan of Capricorn. If there is one thing I’m NOT, it is stingy or greedy or insecure in that manner. So, with GREAT latitude & reservation I shall say that the reversal of this card was meant but was “misturned.” Moving on (“quickly, hurry up! We’ll be caught!!”), I am much more interested by whom/what is my aide, my helpmeet and then our troubled/gifted/complex/deadweight child, XVIII the Moon.
(Any of those adjectives, depending on the circumstances & cards; but not all at once! LOL! It doesn’t represent Stephen Hawking Miller!) Next up is my aide if I need it, and I do, given that miserly 4 of Reels, is XVII the Star. Factoids: “She” is Jupiter in Aquarius as a symbol for long-sightedness and confidence, OR Venus in Pisces standing for the desire for the inscrutable. She herself is Aquarius. (“Water, water everywhere, and nary a drop to drink!”) She’s walking from Chokmah to Tiphareth, and is an Air sign. If you know me through Tarot AT ALL you will know that XVII and I are old pals, she always springs eternal in my heart. My life has been full of an inordinate number of occasions where I was dreadfully down-in-the-mouth and Life had dealt me a very nasty blow indeed; I am one of those creatures in whom, at that moment, I always find my Hope. That is the “luck” counterstroke the Cosmos gave me to ward off the terrorism of ennui and closed-mindedness. I can ALWAYS use whatever XVII the Star brings me, always. Her presence is never a bother, though sometimes it can seem quite insane. Oh well, she wears different colored socks, too . . . LOL. Of equal if not more interest in who else has a finger in my pie today, there is XVIII the Moon.  Somehow the idea of having the Moon for a daughter frightens me, or more accurately, gives me the heebie-jeebies . . . “. . . and you thought your 7 ex-wives were high maintenance dreamers! HA! You ain’t seen NUTHIN’ yet!” (Grin.) Actually, I’m not too sure why this cared should show up here, unless my intuition is going to play a trick on me today. I normally have a good relationship with the Moon, thus there is also the possibility that she ISN’T “our troubled teen” but actually is Nurse’s Aide #1.
It’s easy to get lost in the moonscape, and to stare at the Delphic vapor pools too long and be seized by Irrationality; I use to love doing that sit as a kid. AS A KID? I emphasize; it isn’t a game for grown-ups, because after a certain age it is no longer a game but a choice of life connected or unreality disconnected. It’s too fucking serious to decide in game mode, so adults have to take it out of the Moon, where it was born, and drag it off to a workstation they can use, but which kills the moon creature, delicate and insubstantial as it is. (I’m thinking of “Moon Jellies,” a candy that I want to make and produce, just for the fun of it; a good example of a moon-born fantasy that isn’t meant to live in manifestation.) We are all to some extant captives of the Moon; if not by the reality of its gravity then by the reality of its unreality, so to speak. S/He plays a much bigger part in our lives than we give credit. (“My priests tell me I must use the male nominative for the Moon, the god Khonsu, son of Amon and Mut, but they are just going to have to learn to live with the fact that I fancy the Moon as a woman. So let it be written; so let it be done!” Grin.) Suffice to say that regardless of which gender you assign to the Moon, the influence has a definite FEMALE vibe, feel, energy, heart to it, not masculine – but then again, I say that as a culturally conditioned citizen of the western world of capitalism and faux-democracy. It doesn’t matter, and least of all to her, the Moon! Ahaha! She’s downing here stirring EVERYONE’S shit, and she simply doesn’t have time to stir any one pot in particular. But, if you step aside and watch, it can be fun, but Beware! Don’t participate! That way lies folly. You are NOT meant to assume the duties of the Moon, I assure you, so keep your spatula to yourself. I ask the Cosmos to give us ALL a glimpse of whether our “children” are aides or hindrances. Be Well!

Good morning and Welcome! to The Fool’s Tarot for 26Sep2016. There are several surprises for me today in the cards, but first the draw. The draw consists of three (3) cards today, with the 1st as the day’s Goal, the 2nd (right top) is my aide in the form of 0 the Fool, and finally there is my hindrance or opposition or bumps in the road figured by the Page of Cups. I think I’ll call this spread the Not-So-Holy Family, with the Goal and its Aide being “parents” to a “difficult child.” LOL. I could probably find a more elegant name, but not a more descriptive one! (Today’s deck is the *Templar Tarot; The Journey* by Allen Chester & Stephen Dafoe.) the aforementioned deck was a bit of a surprise for me, as well; this is one of those decks that I purchased ages ago and shelved at the time because it has an entire EXTRA set of Major Arcana that are “to be used in conjunction with” blahblah. I dislike the whole concept of, “Hey, gang! I have an idea! Let’s fuck around with the mechanics & basic setup of the Tarot!! Whaddaya say? Fun, eh?” Adding or subtracting cards is a no-no in my eyes, and re-ordering them had DAMN WELL BETTER have a good reason. We go through THAT hang-up every time we use the cards, the whole 8 vs. 11 situation with Justice & Strength. I just re-spotted it the other day, took it out, and saw that nothing would be impaired by leaving the 23 cards of the expanded Major Arcana  in the box, and working with the standard Tarot deck.
And thus I have discovered a new Tarot that, unlike its name, has little to nothing to do with the Knights Templar. . It is, however, an attractive and vitally alive deck on its own, so I’m going to put it back into circulation here.  My Goal for the day is XI Justice, and although you may not understand why, I am fukkin’ DELIGHTED to see the old girl. She and I are bosom buddies and have been a long time, “depuis des lustres” as the French say.  IT is only human nature to demand to see Justice done, but rarely is it not self-interested. For example, I’m a BIG fan of Karmic payback and what is perceived to be such, but I “expect” the Cosmos to have a great deal of genial mercy, compassion & understanding, enough to spare ME of an unpleasant karmic payback. LOL! Pure bullshit, of course! I CANNOT hope to escape the Karmic wheel any more than while in a physical shell I need to breathe.  However, having Grown Up ( a helpful quality, believe me, kids) I am sensible enough to know that cheering for Karma and Justice is all fine and good as long as you live by what you preach. I try to, I really do. Of course I can’t help but blame the Universe sometimes for what I perceive as malchance or bad luck, I’m human, but I TRY VERY, VERY HARD not to take it personally. I take responsibility for my life. It is as simple as that. And THAT is what Justice is, ultimately, all about. It’s about right living and justice, it’s about Ma’at, “the whole organic balance and well-being of the kingdom.”  I should add the whole kingdom, all the kingdoms, in their nests of empire or alone, it applies. My aide today is –Surprise! - 0 the Fool. That is absolutely fukkin’ GREAT! While I normally like my traveling companions to be more “straight men to my comic wit,” with the Fool you abandon hope of control and let him go whither and away, looking for the way forward. I enjoy the Fool, but he is a particular kind of company, a zany friend that you can support maybe 2 or 3 times a month, but any more is difficult to deal with and to swallow. While he may illuminate your life from time to time with his zaniness, you imagine that he must suffer, because who could possibly live that way, maintain all of that, 24/7?? The Fool may bring you zaniness, but who knows? maybe you bring some calm to the Fool. Regardless, he is a wonderful buddy to have at your side in a pinch, irresponsible and flighty though he may be, because Genius often strikes him and gives him a way forward where none can see one. (You’ll notice that I’m not going into all of the astro-notes and abstruse occult symbology of today’s cards; correct! I feel good today, having just left the Temple of the High Priestess and my journey in Shadow, and I am just “enjoying the sunshine & flowers” for right now, not tearing them apart to find out how they work.)
Then there is our “problem” member of the family, who is often described as “just like the Page of Cups . . . sort of.” This is because when the Page of Cups turns to creating trouble or difficulty in your life, s/he can be a bitch. Amongst many devious & rotten qualities, s/he is capable of faking emotions, of an abuse of feelings, of being selfish, of indulging in wasteful luxury, deviations and obligations of ALL kinds, of being a flatterer. Hir taste & inclination are to attachment, seduction, deception, and artifice. (If this is your significant other, RUN! LOL, just joking, but . . . not really!)  Actually, this young person who is filling the role of Sower of Discord may or may not show up in my life. Someone is welcome to try - I give such people very short shrift indeed, and quite often, accompanied by fireworks; (“Oh good, Daddy!! Is Uncle Mark gonna get mad again??OOH! Fireworks!!”)  The one thing I am NOT ready for is an attack on the emotional front, because for the moment it is necessary to keep that line open. I shall mount double guard duty, of course; I don’t want an asshole sneaking into my life by the backdoor! Nevertheless, that front MUST stay open – I’m expecting a delivery any day now. Grin. Well, I’ve got my hands reasonably full today, so we’ll go with that. I ask the Cosmos to give us all a boost up today, in order to see over the Wall and be glad of the next stretch of the Journey. Be Well!

Good morning and Welcome! to The Fool’s Tarot for 25Sep2016. These feel eerily appropriate as I close out this week of Shadow reading. (Today’s deck is the *Tarot Mortis* by Mark Case Watson. The last of his dark trilogy [*Tarot Naught,* *Tarot of Nightmares* and this, *Tarot Mortis*], it has been both revelatory and “wonderful” to work with all three on a subject, I believe as he intended. They ARE dark decks, but Wow! do they deliver, and are honest in their directness. I *really* like them. One last thing – they make great meditation images.) To finish up my run I am again using the Boaz and Kachin 2-card layout, and have received, respectively, the 7 Air (7 of Swords) and XVII the Star. Well, just on the surface, we are already off to a good start! “Skull-in-flames Deception” as opposed to “ghost bride Renewal” (granted, she seems a little spooked out here, but whaddaya want? It’s the *Tarot Mortis*!) Can’t get more obvious than that, unless perhaps you find a corpse with Major Arcanum XIII jammed down its throat. Well, let’s take a look at the pasteboards, shall we? First, in the Boaz position, is the 7 of Air (Swords) AKA Deception. It sits in Netzach in the Tree of Life, carried by Air. Astrowise, it is the Moon in the 3rd decan of Aquarius. (Water + Earth = mud, which blurs one’s view!) This was certainly the card for my concerns most recently. I hate feeling deceived, for whatever reason, and it is a struggle to stay neutral and not lash out and destroy. I manage, barely. On the other hand, sticking by one’s guns despite a reception of deception is required if one is going to be true to oneself, and although that is cold comfort, it IS comfort.  I’ve had an issue the last several days, but it has been resolved, leaving the burnt aftertaste of “lesson learned.” Let’s see what else the 7 is up to concocting; “Now none of the Suits is lucky within the Seven - the Wands burn down, the Cups nearly drown and the Disks are out cold - yet the Swords are least willing to accept their fate and activate every trick and list they can figure to get along. And considering that the Swords are pure intellect, they are embarrassingly good in figuring out tricks... Therefore, the Seven of Swords can talk of trickery, cheating, sudden affronts, juggling and intentional confusing with unrestrained Mercurian amorality. Though, all the lists are bound to fail, even the clever Swords cannot escape the hand of fate.” (Raven) Yep, yes, et oui. There is also our old friend A. E. Thierens, with “The element Earth on the Seventh house indicates the actual and material union of the Self and the Not-self in the organism, as a material building. In this we have to see the 'accomplishment' or attainment of the Self, that which the Self wishes to join. Since the seventh house represents 'the opponent' as well, there may be something like quarrelling in this card, attempts to reach agreement with an opponent; this will be done in a practical, business-like way. A combative spirit, ready for the defensive. Owing to the diplomatic and foxlike qualities of the house of Libra, the Querent may, by this card, attempt to steal the weapons of the opponent, as the figure rightly suggests: using the arguments and fighting with the weapons of the enemy.” Well, yes, but on the whole I don’t read him for ideas or breakthroughs but for the antiquarian charm of him. His science isn’t wrong, however, just rather quaint. And how does one hope to exit Deception? “With Hope” is a good answer, of the many available. Despite her ghost bride appearance, this is a WONDERFUL card to be the last to draw in the Shadow journey. I’m deeply pleased.
Factoids first, however; XVII the Star is on the Path of Heh, #28 in the Tree of Life. She has Jupiter in Aquarius as a combo of perspicacity; or she may be Venus in Pisces, (watery enough for you?) as the desire for the inscrutable. She herself is Aquarius (“Aaiee! I’m melting, melting! All my beautiful wickedness!” the Wicked Witch of the West.) She is walking from Chokmah to Tiphareth on a breath of Air. (Surprise!) “The Star is the trump of hope and trust, for the sensitive understanding of cosmic coherence, the intuition that everything is in balance and harmony. It is related to Justice (sic) (the cross sum of 17 is 8), but while Justice keeps the balance deliberately, the Star keeps it with feeling.” (Raven) And for the taste of sarsaparilla again, with A. E. Thierens, “The figure expresses eternal youth and beauty. No astrologer will hesitate to recognize Venus. "The Star is the ‘étoile flamboyante’, which appears in Masonic symbolism, but has been confused herein. [Waite] And "gifts of the spirit," which au fond means beauty, are the gifts administered by Venus, who in the solar system hands over the vibrations or 'gifts' coming from the Sun, to our Earth. . . . Well, then it is the image of this planet of beauty and eternal youth, which has its place between the Sun and Mercury on one side and our Earth on the other, the third personification of the genius of the Sun. . . . The Phe--identified with this card--expresses the same hieroglyphic value as the Beth (second card), but in a more extended sense." It is said to represent speech. (Papus) Now Venus has in so far to do with the second sign, that it rules this sign. The 'more extended sense' may perhaps be thought of as this planetary rulership, as ‘the Word in action in Nature with all its consequences.’ (Papus) . . . Venus indeed is the representative of the ruler of Light on Earth and in Nature: third aspect of the Solar Logos. . . it is Venus, the ruler of the signs Taurus and Libra, houses of riches, art, beauty, and of the organized body. In the latter it represents the Law of Harmony between the Self and the Not-self.” And I DID come out of the experience with Hope, that all was settled and could lie quietly in its grave now. The void in between the two pillars, the “toile” or web which I need to discern to complete the lesson is quite clear to me now; that is the analysis of motivation and the necessity of rigorous examination in order to have a solid foundation upon which to stand. I did. NOW I can move on.  I ask the Cosmos today to give us ALL a moment of pure self-conviction today, in the knowledge that we are acting in Truth, and to change course if we are not. Be Well!

Good morning and Welcome! to The Fool’s Tarot for 24Sep2016. Again drawing the Two Pillars spread, again unmotivated to write. Please forgive me, I’ll try to add as I can, but for the most part I am simply going to give you some information on the cards; I’m not feeling the Muse today, and I don’t fight that. That being said, here goes. The 1st card, the Boaz of my draw, is 0 the Fool (today’s deck is *The Bohemian Gothic Tarot* by Alex Ukolov & Karen Mahony.) I’m feeling rather the Fool today myself, unmotivated by the Muse as I am and still trying to put out this blog post, when I could simply skip a day. As we all know, the Fool is the happy, carefree “idiot” who starts the Journey way back when. I’m feeling more than a little “Foolish” today; I’m slightly down thus suiting the nighttime blueness of the card, and my hope for the salvation offered me the Moon hinges entirely upon not stepping off the gargoyle . . . . 0 the Fool is Pisces going to Aries and on the other hand Uranus & Mercury standing for curiosity, spontaneity, & even madness. He has arrived by Air, and is on Path #11 the Ox going from Kether to Chokmah. He is the nothing and beginning of it all. “The Fool is the symbol of true innocence, a perfect state of joy and freedom, the sure feeling to be one with the spirit of life, at any time. The Fool has the number 0, for someone ready to go in any direction, open to all possibilities. He belongs nowhere, has no past, but an infinite future. Every moment is a new beginning. In Arabic letters the 0 has the shape of an egg, the symbol for the origin of life. The Fool is change, motion and the readiness to jump into life, with no cares ever. The Fool knows no difference between possibility and reality, the zero means a total lack of hope and fear, the Fool suspects and plans nothing. He reacts directly to the current situation, nothing is calculated, and nothing is hidden.” (Raven) Following that, here is some more occult knowledge from *The general Book of the Tarot* by A. E. Thierens; “The average stage of man in the present stage of Earth-evolution is 'human,' but not yet at the stage of wisdom, consequently that of the 'unwise man.' To us, creatures living upon the Earth, this globe cannot be observed by us in toto, and the Fool is represented as a man walking without paying attention to himself. There is something of absolute Fate about this figure, which reminds us of the old saying of astrologers: "The wise man rules his stars, the fool obeys them." On the point of this fatality all authorities agree. For the rest the explanation does not seem very satisfying. To us there appears to be no doubt regarding the nature of this Fool, presented as a final 'principle,' if we may call it that, after those of the planets. A principle, however, without a number, a principle of nothing, nothingness. The planets give us the symbols or ideas of organs of consciousness, the zodiacal signs denote modes of substance, from which consciousness is derived. So the zero-principle is the symbol of unconsciousness. In fact he who is unconscious, of himself or of Self, will obey every intimation from without and obeys 'his stars'--his senses, stupidly, blindly. Of course this card has much to do with foolishness, spiritual dumbness, but it bears also the meaning of that which cannot be helped and which we do best to leave altogether aside; or that which will come right of itself and need not be heeded by us: that to which we are subject, as to the Earth course in its orbit. It does not need our personal assistance. Realizing the latter fact this 'fool' might after all appear to be wiser than a good many other people, who in their human vanity imagine they are greatly needed for carrying out the intentions of their God, of Whom they claim a sort of personal knowledge. A proverb says, that children and fools tell the truth. Taken as a whole, the card signifies that which will prove to contain more truth than appears; that which cannot be helped; those who are unconscious (of certain things, e.g.,) or unreasonable or foolish, disregarding logical propositions and actions. Also that part of our surroundings over which we have no control or which we do not master; that which we have to obey or which we ignore. The Hebrew letter Shin is brought in relation with this card, and Papus says it means "the Motion of relative duration," but his explanation does not throw any particular light on the card nor on the relationship. The picture seems to hint also that the fool "is hurried to his destruction unawares." (Waite) And there may be a good deal in it. In divination it may hint at persons suffering under this tendency.” So there you have it, the Fool as he stands almost 100 years ago (Thierens) and the Fool today (0 = me).
The Jachin which accompanies this Boaz is the Page of Pentacles. Now the Page is in Malkuth in the Tree of Life. Astrowise s/he is Venus in all the Earth signs, having arrived by Earth on the Earth of Assiah. S/he is “the Earth in the Earth, thus she is the pure manifestation of the qualities of Assiah, the physical world of making and growing. She is the last of the court cards and therefore implies a new begin of the circle, which could mean the beginning of a new project or a new physical creation. The [Page of Pentacles] is warm-hearted, sensual and generous, an unwavering and concentrated person with all the reliable stability of the Earth. Yet she lacks Fire and Air, as well as the conforming qualities of Water, she can easily be a little too dependent from outside influences but nevertheless being unable to really adapt to others. . . Her Drive is Creation, growth, birth, making, whereas her Shadow is wasteful, prodigal, illogical, stubborn, all too dependent and changeable in her opinions.” (Raven) and from A. E; Thierens, we have, “The Page, always more or less of a messenger, in this case of fiery nature, on the Seventh house, as well as on the Third. The latter house is that of the disciple and the message; so here the traditional rendering is again quite correct. The seventh house explains everything that is said about application, occupation, profession, liberality, etc., this being the house of Libra, of relation. We may add, that the card will indicate a proposal of marriage, courting, love-making, but in a gentle, sometimes a poetical or platonic way, not without ardor however. It has also to do with all sorts of honorable offices and denominations and may indicate any official person in the civil service and commerce, a stationer, bookseller or editor, bookkeeper or director, appointed by the owner or patron.” I can’t quite see the Page as that hidebound, to be honest. She is a big time Manifester, and I feel that is the role she is fulfilling here in her Jachin position. Now, what web, what toile, what Shadow am I to see stretched between them? Today it seems the message is clear; You may be in the dark about it, you may be in Shadow about it even, but make the “leap of faith,” do it – it leads directly to a manifestation in the Shadow that is highly beneficial to the continuation of the Journey; you NEED it, otherwise the Chief Manifester of the deck wouldn’t be present. I ask the Cosmos to give us ALL today a moment of clarity in order to perceive what we may manifest in Shadow to help our journey. Be Well!

Good morning and Welcome! to The Fool’s Tarot for 23Sep2016 ; today I am again using the Two Pillars and I have pulled the 8 of Wands as Boaz and XXI The World as Jachin.(Today’s deck is the *Tarot Naught* by [Mark] Case Watson. Although I am showcasing this second, after the *Tarot of Nightmares*, I believe it is actually the 1st in Mark’s trilogy of dark decks. The third I shall showcase at the end of this “Shadow exercise.”)  Again I have asked the cards to “throw me into Shadow” today to spend a little “dive time.” Well, they have done that, and with a vengeance. Were I reading these cards for anyone at any other time for any other reason, I could do it without problem and one hopes with some insight, inspiration and Intuition, that I could relate it closely to the Querent, or lead the Querent to make hir own conclusions guided by me. Even were I reading these for myself, in a “normal” fashion, I could do that just that much easier because the message is very clear, IF I hadn’t asked for a Shadow Reading. To tell you the truth, I am a bit flummoxed here. This is such a deceptively normal reading, and yet it is being given to me for a reason, and I k now my draws, this one had dead serious intent, there was no humorous or self-delusional vibe going down at all. I’m going to rely on my Intuition for this Shadow reading, and I am “moved” (like a planchette on a Ouija board, I’m just a tool of the Truth . . .LOL Ahahahahahaha, and if you believe that, let me tell you about this bridge in Brooklyn I have for sale . . . .) to look incisively at the factoids of each card and then consider them from one of the best Shadow Guides out there, if you look for it therein, Aleister Crowley’s *The Book of Thoth.* Okay, let’s put the pedal to the metal and see what kind of scorch marks have been left on the Yellow Brick Road, shall we? First, let’s consider the Boaz (Strength) card drawn, the 8 of Wands (and, BTW, I love this illustration; one WOULD be a tad “pressed” to be swift of movement if one were facing down what looks like Abaddon, the Great Devourer.) AKA “Swiftness” in the Thoth system, it sits in Hod in the Tree of Life, arriving by Fire. Astrowise, it is Mercury in the 1st decan of Sagittarius. “With the Eight of Wands the element of Fire enters Hod, the realm of intellect and logic, ruled by Mercury - thus an area much to its delight. Swiftness is what is demanded in here, decisive action in high speed modus.” (Raven)  The Shadow side of this card is rashness, thoughtlessness, rapaciousness, insolence & jealousy. A warning? Don’t become a real ass about something later on today; or in general? Hmmm. Let’s look at Crowley; “The remaining three cards of the suit belong to Sagittarius, which represents the subtilizing of the Fiery energy; and Mercury rules the card, thus bringing down from Chokmah the message of the original Will. The card also refers to Hod, splendor, in the suit of Fire, whence it refers to the phenomena of speech, light, electricity. The pictorial representation of the card shows the Light-wands turned into electrical rays, sustaining or even constituting Matter by their vibrating energy. Above this restored universe shines the rainbow; the division of pure light, which deals with maxima, into the seven colors of the spectrum, which exhibit interplay and correlation. This card, therefore, represents energy of high velocity, such as furnishes the master-key to modern mathematical physics. It will be noted that there are no flames; they have all been taken up into the wands to turn them into rays. On the other hand, the electric energy has created intelligible geometrical form.” (*The Book of Thoth* A. Crowley.) So, Mark, don’t be a “high-velocity ass,” buddy. Grin. I’m not sure about that, but then, not really grokking this, I’m giving it a light spin. I understand the Shadow side of the next card, our Jachin, quite well, thank you.
And the Shadow side of XXI the World is quite simply “Delusion.”  Delusion about having reached XXI, perhaps, or delusion about one’s own progress or place on the Path. Or perhaps just delusion-AL about the level of veracity in one’s observations of both objective & subjective phenomena – for “delusion” simply means “to willingly give oneself an illusion that something one hopes to be is as he/she wishes it to be. Ultimately a self-serving action that is corrosive to oneself and the desired goal. Okay, the World-s factoids are: She is on the Path of Tau, #32 in the Tree of Life. Influenced by Neptune as the cosmic omniscience and Pluto as central power of creation, she is actually Saturn, going from Malkuth to Yesod, and is of the Earth. Whereas this card is normally the “end and completion of the Major Arcana is the symbol for the zenith of development - the achieved goal,” (Ibid) in a Shadow presentation it must stand for false visions and “being on a street to nowhere.” Here is where it is best to read what Crowley has to say about her (the Universe); "We are come unto a palace of which every stone is a separate jewel, and is set with millions of moons. And this palace is nothing but the body of a woman, proud and delicate, and beyond imagination fair. She is like a child of twelve years old. She has very deep eyelids, and long lashes. Her eyes are closed, or nearly closed. It is impossible to say anything about her. . . . This is the daughter of BABALON the Beautiful that she hath borne unto the Father of All. And unto all hath she borne her.” (Ibid) Well, as far as shadow figures go, the daughter of Babylon the Great will serve as well as any. Despite the centuries of misunderstanding heaped upon and incrusting the metaphysical truth enshrined in the Virgin/Sacred Whore mythos, she still stands forth as Sophia in any light in any system. Thus I can take comfort in that – whatever giddy, carnivalesque day this may turn out to be, Isis/Sophia shall still be in the neighborhood, ready to help if I need her. I ask the Cosmos today to give us ALL a dose of grace and cooperation when the kaleidoscopic delusional whirl of the world becomes overwhelming. Be Well!

Good morning and Welcome! to The Fool’s Tarot for 22Sept2016. Today I did something much more typical of my younger self; I asked the cards to take me into Shadow and show me what they wished to show me for today, “No Holds Barred.” I’ve wanted to journey DOWN IN for a while now, so one might as well just dive, right? I’ve decided to use something I call the Boaz-Jachin spread for this journey, however many days it lasts, (I’m planning a week; we’ll see.) It is, AGAIN, a simple 2-card draw, but what I am asking to see here is not so much what is in the two pillar cards, important though they are! but rather I am deeply interested by the part that Morgana asks me to construct along with them; the “toile,” or web woven between the two columns, THAT is where I will find this day’s shadow focus, I know it. The cards are anchoring the Web of my “Fate”, if you like, (I do NOT believe in predestination; it seems a “tad” incongruent, I know, but it works in my universe, so just ride along, okay?) (Today’s deck is *Strange Wonders Tarot* by William Wraithe [appropriate last name, eh?].) I have pulled the 8 of Cups as Boaz and IX the Hermit as Jachin.(it doesn’t have an overwhelming bearing on the reading, but Boaz is, more or less, “Strength” and Jachin is, again more or less, “It will be established.” “HE (It) will establish Strength.” I can grok that if I translate Strength as necessary to Stability, because I’m a big believer in Ma’at; perhaps because so much of my life was out-of-balance, I have come to highly value it now. At any rate, enough hand-job blathering, on to the cards and the web hanging between them. First off, let’s get bothersome facts out of the way; the 8 of Cups sits in Hod in the Tree of Life, arriving by Water. Astrowise, it is Saturn in the 1st decan of Pisces, not a good place. This 8 is gloomy enough without my having to look too far for Shadow reflections in myself; “The Eight of Cups has driven the debauch of the Seven to absolute excess, the delusions have lost all attraction and all that's left is frustration. The sequence of the numbers has reached Hod, calling for structure and logic, but the emotional waters of Briah cannot be happy with this call and remain in dumb resignation. Nevertheless, happy or not, the call must be heard to leave the bogs of numbness, and the Eight of Cups tells us to abandon the past, leave the current situation, make up our minds most honestly and open our eyes to upcoming changes.” (Raven.) O-k-a-a-a-y, got it. There is the left-hand anchor for my web.
Let’s check out the right, IX the Hermit. He is on the Path of Yod, 20, in the Tree of Life. Saturn is the keeper of the gate, or Saturn in Aquarius, standing for the search of wisdom and the keeping of independence. The Hermit is of Earth? Is Virgo Astrowise, and travels from Chesed to Tiphareth. The Hermit is normally read along the lines of “retiring from life, retreating from the masses, looking into one's self, introversion, seeking hidden knowledge or gnosis, etc.” There is a social side to the Hermit, too, that is often dismissingly discussed. Here, however, it is serving as one of the pillars of the gateway to gnosis, of the web I help weave, of the curtain of the temple which is eventually ripped asunder by an enlightened one. (Any of us; All of us.) And with this rather forbidding Hermit holding a head and staring out to confront me & my quest, I need to look past her to see what the Hermit is anchoring in terms of the invisible Shadow and in cooperation with the darkly omened 8 of Cups. What I can see is a figure forming, it must be me, I’m the one asking – and the figure is of a “wisdom whore”; someone who collects knowledge for the sake of collecting, not putting to use. There is also a ragingly angry and disappointed quester wrapped up in that figure, someone totally pissed at being deceived by what he believed was promised to him/her. He is, of course, mistaken; nothing was promised. Oh, yeah, it’s a him, . . . it’s me, I’m sorry to say, in a Shadow part of me that never sees the light of day. I don’t like to see him, but lurking somewhere in the Memory Palace is that obnoxious, spoiled and hateful child who never really existed in reality but whose composite was present in a live reproach from others, especially when it came to not conforming to the Eisenhower world of my childhood. The price was high for non-conformity back then, and I certainly don’t recall anyone asking me if I wanted the deal, I just found myself bound by it, for good, it seemed. What is Shadow here is that figure who eventually became an almost- Bogeyman kind of figure; I still carry that Shadow, somewhere in there; the guy who is pursuing enlightenment for unenlightened reasons, regardless of whether he was ever real & true or not (he wasn’t) – it’s an avatar forced upon me by the society that bred me; I was a hell of a combination to come out of the American mill; American Indian & WASP, gay & not fey, hungry for all the knowledge locked away in the “restricted” sections but maddeningly good with the pap they wanted me to learn (my teachers for the most part were jealous and fearful of me: fearful of being shown up, I imagine.) I was an “enfant terrible;” and I had been that way since I first opened my mouth at an unusually late age. Keeping my mouth shut while I built my vocabulary, I would assume. Grin.) In its own way, the message here on the invisible web is quite clear; “Part of your Shadow is that person who is ‘weary of it all;’ not that you are a drama queen or a horrible hypocrite, it’s just that you aren’t very patient, Mark. You never have been, to your detriment. And when your excessive measures taken to get what you want come to naught, you indeed tower furious and vexed. But so what? Does it matter anymore? Be a grown up here, pal, and throw out the Halloween costume that used to so amuse you. It does you a disservice now, by demanding recognition, when it was only a set of clothes. Fuck that. Let it go, and good riddance.” I shall include, as the last of this posting, two pieces on the respective cards by A. E. Thierens. As I mentioned the other day, he is charmingly yesteryear, and while much of that is now discounted, there is still much to be learned from the style of reading in that era of the Art. I ask the Cosmos to give us ALL today the necessary wherewithal to pick ourselves up by the bootstraps and kick out any old and unwanted tenant(s) TODAY. Be Well!

The 8 of Cups: “Theory –
On the Fourth house the Water of the soul will be in its own element, so to speak, and will consequently rejoice in its existence, swimming in agreeable sensations, the family and the memory, as far as the personal life goes, playing important roles in the life of the Querent. The lunar and Jovian element passing over this house will almost certainly cause the home and family-life to be forsaken or relinquished; this perhaps may account for the interpretation: "Deserting the cups of his felicity." We should prefer to substitute for "felicity" his family or intimate circle. Changes in home-life be it for the better or for the worse. There cannot be much of order or rule in this combination, and disorder or chaos is threatened. The strong Cancerian peculiarities, such as shyness, timidity, prudishness, etc., may appear here, but we can see no reason for addictions like 'great joy, feasting,' etc. Feelings, sentiments, wishes have very little chance of becoming reality in this house, and this may be called the true reason for 'leaving the house.' The latter seems to us to be the proper meaning: either leaving the safe and comfortable home, or losing the chance to realize more ambitious projects. Being the eighth card of the suit, it may denote a girl, and cups are said to be related to the fair or 'blonde' type.//Conclusion// Leaving the house or home; changes in the family (-circle). Little chance to see one's wishes and ambitions realized. Shyness, timidity; disorder and waywardness. Despondency, despairing of success. Mixed sensations, no strongly preponderant feeling, unless it be that of dissatisfaction. May be fair-haired girl.

“The Hermit - Description and Meaning - Papus: "Humanity fulfilling the function of God the Holy Spirit. The human creative force." Indeed this is clearly Sagittarius for every astrologer. The author might have mentioned in the same line that the Hierophant (Leo) represents God the Son. The Hebrew letter "That represents a roof and suggests the idea of safety and protection . . . protection ensured by wisdom." The astrologer says: the Ninth house is the house of the Master--idea of wisdom and protection in one; the Master in fact shields his disciples like a roof . . . in some way. The sign is that of thought-power, creative mind, idealism, which throw their own light on the things below, and consequently the Sagittarian is remarkable for always seeing things in his own light and trying to throw light on things in order to instruct other people. He is the eternal traveler, the indefatigable walker. And mentally he is always more or less lonely. All this is very distinctly symbolized in the card of the Hermit, which stands for ideas, perspectives, spiritual or moral influences and for light thrown upon the objects of this earth-life. In divination it stands for teachers, legal authorities, advisers and guides, and with the guiding principles in everything and questions, in relation to the Querent. But above all it is his own idealism, etc. The direction in which his thoughts are running. In the older cards the Hermit is shielding his light on one side with his mantle. This may be indicative of the habit of Sagittarians to evade and disarm contradiction beforehand, knowing by intuition the power of darkness. He is leaning on the staff of knowledge with regard to earthy matters. Waite is perfectly right in saying, that "Prudence is the least of its meanings and the most negligible." Some authors (Mathers) held this card to be the symbol of 'prudence,' but indeed the Sagittarian is not very famous for this virtue, though the card is truly Sagittarian and nothing else. This is again proved by the striking explanation of Waite: "His beacon intimates that 'where I am, you also may be.'" This is the stereotyped way in which a Sagittarian thinks. Astrological Correspondence: Sagittarius.”

G morning and Welcome! to The Fool’s Tarot for 21Sep2016. Today I am really starting my voyage into Shadow; for those of you not au courant, I will be spending a week (starting today?) visiting my Shadow, where I shamefacedly admit that I don’t do enough work or visit often enough. Like a nagging elderly relative who is nothing if not negative; “You never visit! You never call! You don’t send money! Shame on you!” Well, of course, aside from the classic, and CORRECT, response of “Fuck you!” , after the irritation has passed one can perhaps admit that in the deep brown shittyness of the accusation there is a kernel of truth; it is easy to forget to visit a “discomfiting” relative. And if I’m really honest about it, I’m all about my Shadow; I’ve built my “reputation” on his back. Any decent or nice thing in my life now appears all the brighter due to being cast against such a somber background. Believe me, it isn’t conscious, I’m not trying to “put the goods in the display window,” so to speak. But these things dovetail in everybody’s life; my disastrous childhood (emotionally & affectively) served to craft a rather dark, smart, humorous individual who had every reason to be well-read and well-cultured; that construction served as my vehicle through the treacherous shoals of growing up into a world that was so randomly cruel. Today I asked the cards to introduce me to a part of my Shadow that I need to know but don’t, that I can make into a friend and not a hostile observer. I drew these cards as a result, the Princesses of Cups & Swords. 5Today’s deck is the *Decadent Dreams Tarot* by Eleanor Boyce. Ms. Boyce is a Tarot artist whose work I truly enjoy; here she “caretakes” decadent art.) Well, you can imagine – ‘Huh? What? What the f- is THAT supposed to mean?” Then I heard the deep and familiar interior voice that comes when my Intuition wishes to tell me something, “Look between. Observe the space between, the web woven there, and not the anchoring pillars of Boaz & Jachin, Of the Princess of the Heart and the Princess of the Head.” Ha! Again with the void, Intuition! I do that often, and thankfully my Intuition tells me to STOP overlooking what I can’t see but is there nevertheless; as good a definition of Shadow as any, I suppose. Let’s look at the facts on these two girls and see what rings a sistrum there. The Princess of Cups sits in Malkuth in the Tree of Life, arriving by Water. Astrowise she is Venus in the Water signs (sopping with emotion & feelings!) Okay and the Princess of Swords sits in Malkuth as well in the Tree of Life, and Astrowise she is Venus in the Air signs.
She arrives by Earth to the air of Yetzirah (remember the 4 worlds?) and she can be seen to represent the “Visible” side of the veil; “the earthy child of her element, the wind over the grounds of Assiah. Her logic can be destructive, she is perceptive, serious and rigorous, yet she can show the characteristics of a child that lacks morality and nobility.” (Raven) The Princess of Cups can be seen as the reverse side of that veil, she “represents the earth in the waters of Briah, an island floating in the groundless seas. She is far from her father's flames and her mother's depth, and she lacks the researching spirit of her brother. She is of endless tenderness, kindness and lovingness, living on her isle of romance and joy.” (Ibid)  We-l-l-l, what to make of that, indeed? There is a great deal of my Anima that I insist manifest itself in as masculine a manner as possible, “C’mon! Butch it up, Blanche!” and she can certainly be seen as the part I am obliging to play as the Princess of Swords, my PR face, the one the public knows and I enjoy, although to me it is simply malleable plastic, changing to fit my moods and needs. While I won’t quite say that my inner self is that “bathing Cleopatra” on the card, when I am in this realm at all I usually feel like the “I-don’t-think-I-belong-here!” king, so the fact that this princess is serving as Boaz (“Justice, the “black” pillar on the left when facing an illustration of the Pillars of the Temple) is a touch odd. Cups aren’t my natural Court, and I am almost always uncomfortable. And yet . . . Jachin here, the Princess of Swords, the clear or “white” pillar Jachin on the right, while she is my public persona, is someone a bit too “self-serving” to really be liked at all. So that DOES leave me with only the Void to be explored, the Web woven between the two pillars, The Veil in the Temple, behind which “resideth Wisdom” . . .  or a little man furiously working a kind of Steampunk contraption! Let’s NOT forget that is entirely possible, here in the Land Behind the Veil, where Illusion is parted and the Truth is beheld. Well, that’s what the instruction manual says, anyway. When facing THIS particular portion of the Veil, I feel much like I feel about young women; so absolutely sweet and adorable, but it is an illusion, and one knows it is, but one cherishes it anyway like the illusion of a kitten who never grows up. Then, it’s time to wake up and slap yourself in the face with the dead trout of Reality. (Go ahead, bitch slap someone else, too, it feels good.) I believe the Shadow part of me that I am looking at today is exactly THAT difference I make between what I present and what I believe; why isn’t what I present what I believe? “Huh? C’mon, you rotten fink, why is that, eh? Yeah, why is that?” There isn’t any good or right or brave answer; the answer is “convenience” coupled with “old habit.” IT ALL used to serve the Mark-that-was, that guy that really NEEDED all these defense mechanisms to survive in a hostile and cold alien environment where even your “nearest and dearest” were ravening monsters. But I DON4T live there anymore this section of the Shadow isn’t needed; I can put these two lovely ladies to far more useful and gracious employment than holding up my delusions! So, I ask the Cosmos today to grant us ALL the gift of disposing of the old mask and some free time to consider, “Do I actually need the new mask AT ALL?” Be Well!

Good morning and Welcome! to The Fool’s Tarot for 20Sep2016; I am REALLY not into talking/writing today, so I’ll post the cards but leave them without my interpretation. Perhaps tomorrow the sodium pentothal will come through. Be Well!

Good morning and Welcome! to The Fool’s Tarot for 19Sep2016.  Today is short and sweet & I’m not going to dwell. It is just a posting, really, of the card I drew. The deck is *The Tarot of Nightmares* by Mark Case Watson.  I’m using this deck for a reason; I specifically want to look at the Shadow side of my reality today, and see if I see from there what is causing such an impediment to getting on with getting on with the project every “normal” reading is shouting at me to mount. Sometimes you have to BE in the dark side before you SEE what’s in the dark side. Mark’s decks are made for that – but they ARE dark, & one must be careful not to succumb to the siren call. That being said, I went for a 2-card goal & challenge draw, with the 1st being more of a pointed “Pay Attention Here!”  variety  The 2nd card, the “Opposition” is today actually “the Glimmer” to consider on the issue; “glimmer” being defined as illusion or hiding magic cast upon the issue, leaving only a “glimmer” of light to guide one. For these two positions, I have drawn, respectively, the 3 of Cups and the 10 of Pentacles. (Interesting side note: As soon as I started this reading, I began to feel nauseous. And every time I look deeply at the image s& consider how they live in me, I need to rush to the water closet to let things turn upside down for a moment. Bizarre! Luckily, I have the remedy for nausea on hand . . . herb. Grin, -but not until after the blog, bien sûr.) I am IMMEDIATELY seized by the appropriateness of the reading; this deck works, and with a vengeance! My “goal” that I need to consider today is the underside, or the “shadow” of my continually expressed desire to enlarge our couple into a triad. I believe, I KNOW, this card is saying, “Take Heed! Consider ALL aspects, not just the ‘illuminated’ ones that show you a bright and sunny path!” This is GREAT – and rather forbidding & cold, as well. “Mark, you are always so focused on what you need to become an illuminated being that you tend to ride roughshod over not only others but your own Shadow self.” I have a long and very complicated history with my Shadow, and while we know each other intimately, I cannot say we are either friends or enemies, or even frenemies. We auto–acknowledge, I suppose is the best way to put it. Alright, the bare facts on the 3 are thus: AKA (Love) Abundance, sitting in Binah in the Tree of Life by way of Water. Astrowise, it is Mercury in the 2nd decan of Cancer. “So, Mark, consider the dark side of three in a relationship; be sure you understand the energies.” Hmmm, okay, I will. As my “Challenge” today, or limitation/opposition to consider, I have drawn the 10 of Pentacles. Bingo!
Again, something too personal not to be true in this place in this reading. It is very easy for me to be distracted from the light by the ultimately dark pleasures of abundance to the point of “opulence,” but it can happen. I like the card – the “opulence” seems to be happening in the foreground, in the darkness, with the round white orbs of obscure creatures staring out of the darkness with curiosity. Oh my Apep! I that your “happy family??”  LOL, no, I doubt it, but they ARE symbolic of the kinds of energy that gather around me when I let myself go into that undisciplined place, Opulence. It’s a curious word, too. For instance, nothing better conveys the whole range of that word than when I heard a man, staring at a woman’s admittedly splendid chest, say involuntarily (in French), “What an opulent poitrine!” That just says it all. Grin. For me, today, I believe this card is a call to be alert – that even the opulence of the gifts of nature, of a well-ordered and justly rewarded life, can be at times an OBSTACLE to progressing towards the light. Self-satisfaction, and a certainty of place (the happiness) so concretized that to move would be unthinkable. “Remember the danger of ATTACHMENTS, Mark! Opulence is all fine & good, but it, too, in the end, is no more than illusion, than Maya.” Yes, yes, that is REALLY a good thing to remember, and to keep in the forefront as a warning, to not become so submerged in the opulence that I drown. Okay, let’s check the facts on our 10 here: AKA Opulence, it sits in Malkuth in the Tree of Life, by way of Earth. Astrowise, it is Mercury (AGAIN!) in the 3rd decan of Virgo (AGAIN!!) Wow; I’m either frightened or really impressed; BOTH Mercury, BOTH Virgo??? Shall we say that Mercury in Virgo is rather prominent in my day today? Ahahaha! So it’s a double whammy squared, hmm . . . I can deal with that. Did you know that ALL of the visible matter in the Universe makes up ONLY 5% of the mass of the Universe? 27% is taken by Dark Energy & 68% by Dark Matter (both completely invisible to us)? So, when one explores the dark side of the Tree, one is actually dealing with a much bigger and more complicated system than the Tree itself – consider the case of a tree aboveground and root system below – which is actually bigger? Almost always, the root system. So, I’m dedicating this week to exploring my Dark Side a bit, something I haven’t done in a very long time. Mazel Tov. . . I guess. LOL. I ask the Cosmos today to give us ALL an opportunity to examine our Shadows without shame or fear and therein to profit. Be Well!
