Good Morning and Welcome! to The Fool’s Tarot for 29/11/2017; the deck today is the *Tarot de Viéville*, a Tarot de Marseille deck printed and designed by Jacques Viéville in Paris around 1643-1664. There is a companion book, “Interprétation du Tarot de Viéville” by Patrick Coq. M. Coq has also written two large volumes on the deck, called “Les Mystères du Tarot Viéville,” which are masterly deconstructions of the symbology of the deck. This is definitely a one-of-a-kind Tarot, as it is HIGHLY individual and quirky. Once used, it tends to grown on one VERY quickly. Grin. I happen to love it for TdeM readings. The “Medievals” were an interesting group, you know; highly instructed in symbology and church doctrine, easy around all the symbology of archetypes and the Path, but most of them couldn’t read to save their lives. . . as well as being easily provoked hysterical sheep in accordance with and under the heavy thumb of the all-powerful Church. Theocracies tend to be the most unpopular and radical form of government, as opposed to sheer Chaos. There is NO tyrant as tyrannical as the bureaucratic, minutiae-obsessed god of the christian church. (Secret agents of the Jesuits are probably on their way right now to assassinate me & my “heresy.” GRIN.) Onward & Upward! The draw today is: Sulfur = XVI La Foudre (the Lightning); Mercury = VI Amoureux (the Lovers), and Salt = le Cavalier de Bâtons (Knight of Wands.) It is always a bit disconcerting when XVI the
Lightning (Maison de Dieu, The Tower) pops up right off the bat; you tend to exclaim, involuntarily or not, “Oh Shit!” As discussed three days ago, I have no particular fear of XVI, as it isn’t the destruction of the past which would upset me. I always see XVI la Foudre as an unexpected chance to begin again, to not bother tearing down an old construct but simply blowing it up, and starting from scratch. Much more expedient, ‘don’tchaknow,’ which means it is much more like me; long-suffering patience has never been my strong suit, to say the least. (Which is one of the reasons I am always accompanied by XIV, you see? She’s learned that visits don’t cut it, but that she needs to live here. Grin.) I have a very specific idea of to what this card refers; I recently decided to throw caution and cynicism out the window regarding an emotional matter, and now I am in the early stages of “making ready the alembic” for the “Mariage Chimique” to come. I am decidedly, and deeply, hopeful that this manifestation will succeed, for the betterment of all parties concerned. In this case, the next card, my Anima, as VI the Lovers, or “the Choice,” as I prefer to think of it, means the act of making the right choice, and choosing to follow virtue rather than vice, to put it simply. I hope that I am not deluding myself, of course;
although the matter in question involves relationships and emotions and sex, I am trying to make my decisions here with the best interests of the three parties involved in my mind and my determination. I can certainly, positively, hope for Success in this matter, as I know I am not pursuing purely venal ends but also the well-being and perhaps the life of someone involved. Hitching a ride on the wings of Cupid, we arrive at the “engine room” today, the source of my Energies available today to work with this facet of the affair, the Knight of Wands (Cavalier de Bâtons; image from the Conver Tarot de M.) This knight is very similar to an acquaintance you may meet somewhere along the trail of your life; usually handsome, a good sense of humor & joker, friendly, a source of ideas, etc. BUT – you always have the feeling, somewhere deep down, that s/he isn’t your friend, not really; s/he is, above all, a narcissist, and will ALWAYS sacrifice a friend to make life easier for No.1, hirself. You may have one in your life right now, and as much as you care for hir, be aware of whom s/he is capable of being and of whom s/he is not. I like to think they make wonderful friends, AS LONG AS you never forget the central Truth about their friendship with you; they are NOT there for you, but for themselves, and don’t presume otherwise. If you have a valid sense of self-worth and a healthy ego, these are amusing friends. If you don’t, you will be paranoid around them even though you seek their friendship. “The workings of Air by a special and mighty agent--for this the knight is in all cases--on the houses of water, here the Fourth and the Twelfth, causes turbulence,
motion, emotion (though it must be borne in mind, that it is not emotion in itself); the action of the air on the water causes waves. In the case of the fourth house the knight relates to family matters or household conditions, eventually the father, to internal conditions in society or groups of people. It must further relate to memories and the past in general, because it means the awakening of the sentiments. The traditional conclusions have been drawn evidently in the negative for the greater part, in consideration of the fact that the sentiments generally are misleading. That they give reason for many changes is quite true. In the case of the twelfth house this is much the same. But extending its result over a much larger circle, the mercurial knight may represent expedition and exploration, discovery, scientific or practical, emigration, estrangement, and the 'great work' of transmigration. It denotes a searching for the unknown, which in weak personal cases may appear as indiscretion or premature revelation, divulgation, profanation, etc. We do not see why this knight should be either young or friendly. Quite the reverse: On account of the twelfth house there is something inimical about him, and a certain dissension of sentiment may find its cause in the past, in a family feud or something in the nature of a misguiding prejudice, tradition, which will have to be given up, etc.” (A. E. Thierens.) It is an impetuous, difficult energy, but it is powerful and basically good. “Well, boys and girls, that’s it for today’s Captain Doody’s Violence & Graphic Bloodshed Cartoons!” Grin. I ask the Cosmos today to grant us ALL a sense of Good Intention.  Be Well! Be Zen. Be Blessed!!
